The interview according to Pierre Bourdieu. Critical analysis of La misère du monde
In this collective work directed by Pierre Bourdieu on La misère du monde the author presents a new way of directing interviews, systematically going against the generally accepted methodology used in social sciences, such as the former construction of the object and the hypotheses, the neutral stand of the interviewer and thus the need to have the content analysed. There will be an attempt to show that by this means he introduces expedients which are just as problematical as those he wishes to disclaim as regards non-directive interviews or polls. In addition, the confusion he proclaims amongst literary, political and sociological figures is to the detriment of his former claims ; it pays unnecessary credit to the idea that sociology consists in collecting a statement on a normal conversational basis, from anybody, on any subject and handing it over to the general public without further analysis.
