Lumbering in Franche-Comté : occupational world and job market
pp. 351-378
The history of the lumbering world in Franche-Comté shows that the different actors in this world share a common interest, reflected in the fact that the job market remains relatively closed. Preserving this optimal collective requires implicating everyone in it in a system of interdependence that regulates who gets contracts as well as flows of new lumbering entrepreneurs (lumberjacks, skidders, foresters). Place within this occupational system, the system that organizes reciprocity between an actor and his occupational world, offers a different perspective on what founds and preserves cooperation. Place is constituted in part by actor’s debts and creditor claims. Under certain conditions, place may be transmitted to the following generation.
