Coleman’s Foundations : an introduction
Philippe STEINER

pp. 205-229

This article presents the structure of the Foundations of Social Theory and examines the bases of the « new social science » that allow for rational social intervention in the new social structure characterized by the existence of many corporate actors. The particularity of Coleman’s theory of action is that it goes no further than instrumental rationality, whereas one of the major difficulties presented by the new social structure is that the social capital provided by primordial relations is weaker than it used to be.
